J&K State Award (Best Book 2011)

The book titled “Nub-ra’i gNas-bShad” by Urgyan Rigzin, an astrologer form Nubra received J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages Best Book Award, 2011. The book “Nub-ra’i gNas-bShad”, an account of Sacred Landscapes in the Nubra Valley published by HCHF, is the first ever book on Nubra and its history. Urgyan Rigzin, who is essentially a farmer and a village astrologer belonging to a remote village called Nungstet, has written the book after decades of extensive research on histories of almost all villages of Nubra valley. A farmer coming up with a well researched book is indeed an incredible story. The first copy of the book was offered to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama during his two days teaching at Diskit Nubra. It was then made available to the readers.

Heritage Himalaya Magazine

Ladakh’s only Heritage Magazine, highlighting the social & cultural spheres of Ladakh & other Himalayan regions with an international reach. Registered with the Registrar of Newspapers for India (RNI) under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The Magazine disseminates information and knowledge pertaining to the tangible and intangible heritage of the Himalayan region. It is being published biannually since 2016.

HCHF’s Activities Report

The Himalayan Cultural Heritage Foundation was founded by Dr. Sonam Wangchok with a group of local scholars and social workers all passionate about the preservation of Himalayan cultural heritage and armed with the belief that at the end of the day, heritage facilitates everyone in the society to understand more about their culture and identity and helps reap holistic gains. It was with this cognition of the urgent need for safeguarding the cultural heritage of Himalayas, the Foundation was registered under the registration of Societies Act VI of 1998 (1941 A.D.), under 5851–S of 2010.
